Our Story

Titan - A person or thing of great strength

Tribe - A group of friends that become your family

Three great friends who decided to do their own thing! Having being involved in Flyball, with different teams, since 2012, we decided we wanted to do it our way. We wanted fun with our dogs, and great team days away, making memories of good times, so in July 2023 the Titan Tribe was formed.

We have grown over the past two years. We have many lovely dogs and seeing them start off at the basic level and learning and moving on to open racing is so fulfilling. Our Tribe is a fantastic bunch, welcoming, so friendly and always have support for each other in and out of the ring.

We really are Family.

What is Flyball?

A flyball race sees two teams of four dogs each, racing side-by-side over a 51 foot long course. There are different tournament formats but each format involves racing between two teams at a time. Within a team, each dog must run over the jumps, trigger a Flyball box releasing a ball, retrieve the ball and then return over the jumps.

The next dog is released, in relay fashion, to run the course but can't cross the start line until the previous dog has returned over the finish line. The first team to have all 4 dogs finish the course without error wins. Each race comprises up to five legs, and the team that wins the most legs wins the race. Each flyball team consists of four dogs, plus up to two reserves that can be interchanged after each leg. An electronic judging system that uses lights and timing sensors is used on the start / finish line to determine accurate times, and the winner when both teams complete the course in quick succession.

Any dog can do flyball as long as they are fit and healthy, it is a great way for them to blow of some steam, use their brain and bond with their owner/handler

Tribe Ethos

The Tribe welcomes members of all abilities; from experienced handlers with dogs to those completely new to flyball. We have an open-minded approach where all members have their say and get involved in the running of the club. We train with positivity and always positively reward the dog, dropped ball or clean run!

Our dogs and their enjoyment come first and this is a team sport where all possible team members are expected to help out and get "stuck in" with everyone to have a great time with their dogs and as the "Tribe".

We welcome and encourage our young handlers; they must be supported by an adult at all times until an age or ability to compete in a ring without a guardian as set out by the BFA (currently 16).

We are also an inclusive team and welcome flyball team members of any ability or background. If you believe you need help with anything, feel free to contact us and we can see what we can sort out!

Training Info

We train regularly throughout the year on Wednesday evenings alternating Team / Beginners. Training for beginners is mainly getting the dogs used to the sport, while team is more focused on our upcoming events. The training venue during the winter is in Arbroath and details regarding entering / process of setting up will be discussed beforehand. During the summer months, we train outside at Victoria Park, Arbroath. Training is usually about three hours (dependent on natter!). You and your dog will not be training for the entire session and usually will be about 15 - 20 mins at a time two / three times dependant on how many are at the training. The rest of the time, your dog is free to get comfy in your car (though if this is a problem, please ask) and in the summer they can practice or play nearby (we advise bringing some shade for the dogs or if they are staying in the car you can buy car shades).

Etiquette

Dogs must be kept on lead until ready to train or compete. At training, dogs should be kept in cars (in winter) or in shade (in summer), allowing each dog to train without distractions. All dog fouling should be kept away from the training/areas and disposed of ASAP. Please ensure before you leave, you have taken your dog foul with you. Avoid dogs peeing on equipment, we have a mop and bucket at hand / disinfection spray to avoid other dogs copying. Close contact between dogs is only permitted on prior agreement with handlers. We have a few high reacting dogs and pair them appropriately. Once your dog has trained, please cool your dog down and return to either car / shade then return to help other dogs and handlers to achieve their training goals and join in the fun!

Commitments

Dogs learn best through repetition of regular training and if you can't make it, we will happily give you some pointers to practice at home. Please let us know asap as we try to set up the training times before Wednesday. If your dog can't make it, we will need to shuffle the lineup. Commitments for competitions : There is different levels of entry at flyball and we will always advise you what is best for you and your pooch. We can't replicate the competition atmosphere (noisy!) at training so there may be issues on the day of competitions that we have backup / standby dogs for especially in Foundations. Flyball is a team sport, please remember your fellow Tribe as they may not be able to compete if you have to pull out quickly. We will always try make sure we have someone on standby but please tell us as soon as you can if you cannot make it.
